BRAHMS: A GERMAN REQUIEM

For tickets, see our Current Season page.

The German Requiem remains one of Brahms’ most performed and beloved works. Unlike traditional requiem texts of judgment and despair for the dead, Brahms’ message ultimately is one of consolation, hope, and reassurance for the living.

Francis Poulenc wrote some of the most exquisite, beguiling, and challenging choral music of the 20th century, including his rarely performed Stabat Mater, which depicts the crucifixion of Christ through the eyes of his mother, Mary.

At age 76, after a lifetime of operatic triumphs, Giuseppe Verdi returned to his roots as a church musician and wrote his Quattro Pezzi Sacri (Four Sacred Pieces), miniature gems ranging from intimate a cappella motets to full-throated anthems of praise.
